About the Conference

We are excited to announce XWORLDS: The 1st International Workshop on Advancing Interoperability in Virtual Worlds, to be held at ISMAR 2026.

As Virtual Worlds evolve from isolated platforms into critical digital infrastructures, interoperability becomes increasingly important. How can we avoid fragmented ecosystems, platform lock-in, and barriers to portability? How can we build Virtual Worlds that are open, interoperable, ethical, and human-centric?

We invite position papers and case studies (2–4 pages) on topics including:
• Interoperability and friction points in today's Virtual Worlds
• Federated architectures and alternatives to centralized platforms
• Digital sovereignty, ethics, privacy, and user agency

The workshop aims to bring together researchers, designers, and practitioners to identify design heuristics and research priorities for the next generation of Virtual Worlds.

• Submission deadline: July 5, 2026
• Workshop: ISMAR 2026 (October 5/6, 2026) in Bari, Italy
